At no other point in the history of gaming, has an RPG ever told such an amazingly detailed, gripping, and convincing story as in Planescape: Torment. Here you have none of the commonplace 'the fate of the world rests in your hands,' and you are instead presented with the task of finding out who you have been, and what led you to this state of immortality and memory loss; while slowly starting to mold your very own personality, defining who you are. This brilliant, unprecedented personal story aside, the world it takes place in is like no other. The famous D&D Planescape setting has never been bestowed so much life and detail as it is here. Uniquely brilliant and unforgettable characters catch your eye anywhere you look, and thanks to the incredible variation the different environments offer, you will never grow bored of the content at hand. Planescape: Torment is text-heavy, to say the least, and trying to assault it with a hack'n'slash-mindset is ill-adviced, and will most likely leave you feeling disappointed. Being a mostly cerebral experience, with many profound philosophical questions arising everywhere, I can honestly say that no other game has ever moved me the same way Torment has, and it definitely belongs in the library of anyone who considers themselves a fan of computer-based role-playing games. In my heart and mind, it's a perfect game, and deserves nothing less than a perfect score.
